The short version

This box is a plain summary. The sections below explain each point.

  • TakeTurn is for adults (18+) only. We check your birthday at sign-up and remove accounts that belong to anyone under 18.
  • Real people, checked by real people. Every account needs a real profile photo. A person on our team compares your verification selfie with it, then deletes the selfie.
  • Friends only. There is no public feed, no strangers' content and no way for people you haven't accepted to send you Takes.
  • Takes disappear. A Take can be opened once, for up to 15 seconds. Screenshots and screen recordings of Takes are blocked, and where the phone allows it, the person whose Take was on screen is told about attempts.
  • Report anything, anytime. Press and hold a card in Chats, or use the report option on a profile. People without the app can report at taketurn.co/support. Reporting someone also blocks them, and we never tell them who reported them.
  • Intimate images shared without consent are removed within 48 hours of a valid request, as US law requires, and within 24 hours in India (see Section 8).
  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. TakeTurn is not an emergency service.

1. About this Safety Center

1.1. TakeTurn is a free app for trading photos ("Takes") with friends. A Take is a photo you capture with the TakeTurn in-app camera, with a caption. To see a friend's Take, you "catch" it by sending one back within the catch time (5 minutes to 12 hours).

1.2. This page explains how we keep TakeTurn safe and what you can do if something goes wrong. It is written for users. The binding rules are in our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. How we handle personal data is in our Privacy Policy.

1.3. Related pages:

  • Child Safety Standards: our zero-tolerance policy on child sexual abuse and exploitation;
  • EU Digital Services Act information: contact points, notices, complaints and transparency;
  • Law Enforcement Guidelines: how authorities can request data; and
  • Delete your account and Support.

2. 18+ only

2.1. You must be 18 or older. TakeTurn is not for children or teenagers. There is no teen mode and no parental account.

2.2. Age check at sign-up. We ask for your birthday right after you sign in with Apple or Google, before anything else is set up. If it shows you are under 18, you cannot sign up. Your birthday is never shown to anyone.

2.3. Checks after sign-up. A birthday alone is not proof. Our team also looks for signs that an account belongs to someone under 18 when reviewing profiles, verification selfies and reports. References help too: when someone acts as your reference, they confirm that they know you and that you are 18 or older.

2.4. What happens to under-18 accounts. If we learn or reasonably believe an account belongs to someone under 18, we remove it and delete its data, except the minimum we must keep to prevent re-registration or to meet the law. If you think we made a mistake, you can appeal (see Section 9.4).

2.5. Report an under-18 account. Press and hold their card in Chats, or open their profile, tap Report and block, and choose May be under 18. Parents, guardians and anyone else can also report through taketurn.co/support, with the username if they know it.

3. Real people, human-reviewed

3.1. Real first name and real photo. Every account has a real first name and a required profile photo that shows the person's face.

3.2. Waiting list. New accounts start on a waiting list. Our team reviews the profile and verification selfie and approves it, or an existing user vouches for the person as their reference.

3.3. Verification selfie, checked by a person. A human moderator compares your selfie with your profile photo. There is no automated face matching, we never create a face template, the selfie is never shown to other users, and we delete it right after the decision. Verified accounts show a badge.

3.4. What the badge means. The badge only means the selfie matched the profile photo when we reviewed it. That is why it is removed when the profile photo is changed or removed, or the first name is changed; you can verify again at any time. It is not an identity, background or age-document check. Use your own judgment with everyone.

3.5. One person, one account, one phone. Extra accounts, shared accounts and new accounts made to get around a suspension or ban are not allowed. When an account is deleted or removed, its username stays reserved so nobody can impersonate that person.

4. Designed for friends, not strangers

4.1. No public feed. Nothing you send is posted publicly. Takes go only to the friends you choose.

4.2. Friends only. Only people you have accepted as friends can send you Takes. People who are not your friends see only a limited version of your profile.

4.3. Live photos only. Takes are captured live with the in-app camera. You cannot upload photos from your gallery, and there are no filters. This makes it much harder to spread old, stolen or edited images.

4.4. Blurred until you reply. A new Take arrives blurred, with its caption. You choose whether to reply and reveal it. You never have to catch a Take you don't want to see. You can also just remove or block the sender.

4.5. Seen once, then gone. A revealed Take can be opened once, for up to 15 seconds. We delete it from our servers once it is viewed or missed. The app does not save Takes.

4.6. Private notifications. Push notifications never show a Take's photo or caption on your lock screen.

4.7. No ads, no data selling. TakeTurn has no advertising, no in-app purchases and no tracking for ads.

5. Screenshots and their limits

5.1. While a Take is on screen (in Chats, in the reply camera and in the 15-second view), the app blocks screenshots and screen recordings, on every iPhone and Android phone. Where the phone's operating system tells the app about an attempt to capture, record or mirror the screen, we notify the person whose Take was on screen. On some older Android versions the phone does not tell the app, so the Take is still protected but no notification is sent.

5.2. No app can stop every capture. Someone could photograph the screen with another phone, or a rare system error or a modified phone could let a capture through. Only send Takes you would be comfortable with if they were kept, and only to people you trust.

5.3. Capturing or sharing someone else's Take without permission breaks our Community Guidelines, and may be a crime, especially for intimate images.

6. Reporting and blocking

6.1. Report in the app

  • Report a Take: in Chats, press and hold the card of the person who sent it, tap Report and block, choose Something they sent me, then choose a reason. A Take report covers what that person sent you in the last 24 hours.
  • Report an account: press and hold their card in Chats, or open their profile and tap Report and block. Choose what is wrong, such as their profile photo, name, impersonation, being under 18, or spam.
  • Report anything else, or ask for help: go to Settings > Report an issue.

You can report a Take even after it has disappeared, because we keep an encrypted safety copy of Takes you received for up to 24 hours. After that, the copy is deleted, so please report quickly.

6.2. Report on the web (with or without an account)

Anyone, including people who don't use TakeTurn, can report illegal content, a safety concern, an under-18 account or intimate images shared without consent at taketurn.co/support, or by email (see Section 11). Please include:

  • the username involved (and the date and time, if you know them);
  • what happened and why you think it is illegal or breaks our rules;
  • your name and email, so we can reply (you don't have to give your name if you are reporting child sexual abuse material); and
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete.

6.3. Blocking and removing friends

  • When you report someone, they are blocked automatically.
  • You can also block someone or remove them as a friend at any time from their profile, without reporting and without giving a reason.
  • A blocked person cannot send you Takes or friend requests, and is not told that you blocked them.
  • You can also pause your account to hide from search and stop receiving Takes for a while.

7. What happens after you report

7.1. We confirm we received it. For reports sent on the web or by email, we confirm receipt.

7.2. A person reviews every report. Our moderation team reviews reports using an internal moderation tool and decides based on our Terms, Community Guidelines and the law. We prioritize reports about child safety, threats to life or safety, and intimate images shared without consent.

7.3. Early safety measures. When enough different verified users report the same account within a short time (fewer for child-safety reports), the account is limited until a person reviews it. The person can still use the app to look around, but can't send Takes or add friends. No suspension, removal or ban is ever decided by automated means alone. Child-safety reports go to the front of the queue from the very first one.

7.4. They won't know it was you. We never tell anyone who reported them.

7.5. We tell you the outcome. When we decide, we tell the person who reported in the official "TakeTurn chat" in the app (or by email if they reported on the web).

7.6. How fast. We aim to review urgent safety reports within 24 hours, and we remove intimate images shared without consent within 48 hours of a valid request, or 24 hours in India (see Section 8).

8. Intimate images shared without consent (TAKE IT DOWN Act)

8.1. Never allowed. Sharing or threatening to share intimate images of someone without their consent is never allowed on TakeTurn. This includes real, edited and AI-generated ("deepfake") images.

8.2. Who can ask us to remove them. The person shown in the image, or someone authorized to act for them, can ask us to remove an intimate image of them that was shared on TakeTurn without their consent. You do not need a TakeTurn account.

8.3. How to ask. Use Settings > Report an issue in the app, the form at taketurn.co/support, or email (see Section 11). Choose Remove an intimate image of me (by email, write "Intimate image removal request") and include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough);
  2. enough information for us to find the image, such as the username of the account that shared it, and the date and time;
  3. a short statement that you believe in good faith that the image was shared without your consent, with any information that helps; and
  4. your contact details (and, if you act for someone else, how you are authorized).

8.4. What we do. Within 48 hours of receiving a valid request (24 hours if you live in India), we remove the image and make reasonable efforts to find and remove identical copies on TakeTurn. We also take action against the account under our Community Guidelines. If the image involves someone under 18, we also follow our Child Safety Standards.

8.5. Takes disappear quickly. Most Takes are already deleted from our servers when they are viewed or missed. We may still hold a copy (for example, a safety copy, reported content, or a profile photo), so please write to us even if you are unsure.

8.6. Help outside TakeTurn. If an intimate image of you may be shared on other sites, StopNCII.org (adults) and Take It Down at takeitdown.ncmec.org (images taken when you were under 18) can help stop it spreading across participating platforms.

9. Enforcement and appeals

9.1. Actions we take. Depending on how serious the problem is, we may give a warning (information only; the account keeps working), remove content, place a temporary limit (no sending or replying to Takes and no adding friends), suspend the account temporarily, remove it, or ban it permanently. We may also remove references. Before deciding, we sometimes put an account under review, for example if it may belong to someone under 18.

9.2. Severe violations mean a permanent ban. These include any sexual content involving minors or grooming, credible threats of violence, terrorism, sextortion, sharing intimate images without consent, trafficking and serious fraud. A banned person's Apple or Google account can't be used to register again, and we report to authorities where the law requires. We always report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

9.3. We tell you why. When we act on your account or content, we explain in the TakeTurn chat what we did, why, which rule was involved, whether automated means were used, how long it lasts and how to appeal.

9.4. Appeals. You can appeal a limit, suspension, removal or ban, or the removal of content you shared, free of charge, once per decision, within 6 months: with the Appeal button on your account's status screen in the app, from the decision in the TakeTurn chat, or without signing in at taketurn.co/support ("Appeal a decision"). A warning on its own is information only and can't be appealed. Someone who didn't make the original decision reviews your appeal whenever possible. If we got it wrong, we restore your account as it was. People who reported something can ask for a review of our decision with the Appeal button under the result in the TakeTurn chat, in Settings > Report an issue or at taketurn.co/support. Users in the EU have further options described on our DSA page.

9.5. Friends are never punished. While an account is limited, suspended or under review, streaks with friends are paused and don't break, and Takes in progress are canceled without anyone missing them. Logging out never deletes anything, and the app always asks for confirmation before deleting.

10. Safety tips and help

10.1. Tips

  • Add only people you know in real life. Don't accept friend requests from people you don't know.
  • Think before you send. Check the background for addresses, documents or other people who didn't agree to be in the photo.
  • Never send intimate images. They are against our rules, and once captured, nobody can take them back.
  • Watch for sextortion. If someone threatens to share images of you unless you pay or send more, don't pay and don't send anything. Keep a record if you can do so safely, report and block them, and contact the police. It is not your fault.
  • Be careful about meeting people you know only online. Meet in a public place and tell a friend.
  • Protect your Apple or Google account with a strong password and two-step verification. That account is your key to TakeTurn.
  • Don't share codes or personal details with anyone who asks for them in a Take.

10.2. Crisis and support resources

  • Emergency: call your local emergency number (for example 911 in the US, 112 in the EU, 999 in the UK).
  • Suicide and emotional crisis (US): call or text 988, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).
  • UK and Ireland: call Samaritans on 116 123.
  • Anywhere else: find a free, confidential helpline at findahelpline.com.
  • Intimate image abuse: StopNCII.org; in the US, the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative helpline at 844-878-2274; in the UK, the Revenge Porn Helpline.
  • A child at risk or child sexual abuse material: report to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678 (US), the Internet Watch Foundation at report.iwf.org.uk (UK), or your national hotline listed at inhope.org. Please don't capture, save or forward the material, even to report it.
