The short version

This box is a plain summary. The sections below explain each point.

  • These guidelines are for law enforcement and government agencies asking for information about TakeTurn users. Users can find our general rules in the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  • We hold very little data, for a short time. Takes are deleted from our servers once viewed or missed. Most Take content no longer exists by the time a request arrives.
  • We need valid legal process for user data, except in emergencies involving a risk of death or serious physical injury.
  • We can preserve data while you obtain legal process.
  • We usually tell users about requests, unless the law forbids it or it would put someone at risk.

1. Who we are

1.1. TakeTurn is provided by the provider named in Section 1.1 of our Terms of Service (RETROBOND TEKNOLOJİ BİLİŞİM LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ, a limited liability company established in Turkey, Cumhuriyet Mah. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Blv. Cadde 224 No: 41 A/A, Nilüfer, Bursa, Türkiye). TakeTurn is a free, 18+ app for sending disappearing photos ("Takes") to friends. There is no public feed.

2. What data may exist, and for how long

Data Retention
Basic account information: Apple or Google account identifier and email address (may be an Apple private relay address), first name, username, birthday, profile photo, account creation date, verification status While the account exists; deleted 90 days after the user deletes the account. For accounts we removed or banned: 6 months after the decision, or at once if the user deletes the account for good
Friends, friend requests, blocks and references While the account exists
Take delivery records (sender, recipients, time sent, and whether opened, caught, missed or unsent, but not the photo) Up to 90 days
IP addresses and security logs Up to 90 days
Takes (photo and caption) not yet opened Until viewed, missed (catch time of 5 minutes to 12 hours) or unsent
Safety copies of received Takes Up to 24 hours
Reported content and moderation records Reported content for as long as needed to review it; moderation records up to 2 years
Apparent child sexual abuse material and related information Reported to NCMEC and preserved for one year, or longer on request, even if the user deletes the account
Minimal record after deletion (username and hashed account identifier; for banned accounts, an encrypted one-way code (hash) of the Apple or Google account) As long as we operate the Service

We do not have: verification selfies (deleted after review), passwords, contacts, precise location, payment information, or users' chats list and Activity (stored only on the user's phone). We cannot recover a Take that has been deleted.

3. Legal process we require

3.1. US requests. We disclose user data only in response to valid legal process under US law, including the Stored Communications Act (18 U.S.C. § 2701 and following):

  • a subpoena for basic subscriber information;
  • a court order under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(d) for other non-content records, such as delivery records and IP logs; and
  • a search warrant for the contents of communications, such as Takes or captions, where they still exist.

3.2. Requests from outside the US. We respond to requests made through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, letters rogatory, or another mechanism recognized under US law, such as an executive agreement under the CLOUD Act. Orders from EU authorities under the Digital Services Act and, where it applies to us, the EU e-Evidence Regulation, can be sent as described on our DSA page.

3.3. Every request must: be on official letterhead, sent from an official government email domain; identify the requesting officer, agency and a way to verify them; identify the account by username; describe the data sought and the time period; and state the legal basis. We may reject requests that are unclear, overly broad or not legally valid.

4. Preservation requests

4.1. We will preserve available data for 90 days on receipt of a valid preservation request under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f) or equivalent foreign law, and extend it for another 90 days on a renewed request. Because Takes are deleted quickly, please send preservation requests as soon as possible.

5. Emergency requests

5.1. If you believe there is an emergency involving a risk of death or serious physical injury to any person, we may disclose information without legal process, as allowed by 18 U.S.C. § 2702(b)(8) and (c)(4). Send the request with the subject "EMERGENCY" and describe the emergency, the person at risk, why it is urgent, and the information needed to prevent the harm. We review emergency requests as a priority.

6. Child safety

6.1. We report apparent child sexual abuse material, child sex trafficking and online enticement to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A. Law enforcement can obtain these reports from NCMEC. See our Child Safety Standards.

7. User notice

7.1. We notify users before disclosing their information, so they can seek legal advice, unless we are prohibited by law (for example, by a non-disclosure order under 18 U.S.C. § 2705(b)), or notice would create a risk of death or serious harm, put a child at risk, or be counterproductive in an emergency. If a prohibition ends, we may notify the user then.

8. Costs and testimony

8.1. We may seek reimbursement of costs where the law allows (18 U.S.C. § 2706). We provide records certified by a custodian; we do not usually provide witnesses for testimony unless legally required.

9. Contact us

For anything (privacy, safety, legal or general), write to support@taketurn.co, use Settings > Report an issue in the app, or the form at taketurn.co/support. Law enforcement and government requests should be sent by email.

Post: the provider in Section 1.1. Accepting a request by email does not waive any objection or legal right.
